Wando-gun Selected as an Excellent Institution in the Korea Crime Prevention Awards

Operation of 4th Industrial Revolution-Based Crime Prevention System Tailored to Island Regional Characteristics

[Wando＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do, was selected as an excellent institution at the ‘6th Korea Crime Prevention Awards’ hosted by the National Police Agency and JoongAng Ilbo, and received the Commissioner of the National Police Agency Award from Police Commissioner Kim Chang-ryong at the awards ceremony held at JoongAng Ilbo on the 3rd.

According to the county on the 10th, the ‘Korea Crime Prevention Awards’ is an event jointly hosted by the National Police Agency and JoongAng Ilbo to commend public institutions, companies, and social organizations that strive to build safe communities free from crime.

Wando-gun, selected as an excellent institution, was recognized for its contribution to protecting the precious lives and property of residents by continuously establishing and operating a 4th industrial revolution-based crime prevention system tailored to the characteristics of island areas from 2016 to 2021.

Although Wando-gun is formed as an island area, making it difficult to respond to crime and disasters, it is creating a safe living environment by enabling on-site response even in island areas through the establishment of various systems and cooperation with related organizations.

In particular, in 2016, it established a CCTV integrated control center, added CCTV to crime blind spots, and built a smart drone system, a smart city integrated platform, and a disaster village broadcasting system.

By establishing various systems and sharing real-time information through agreements with related organizations in the jurisdiction such as the police station, coast guard, fire station, military units, and education support office, it enabled initial response to crime and disasters.

Wando-gun plans to continue efforts to identify blind spots where improvements are needed in crime prevention so that residents can enjoy a safe and happy life.

Governor Shin Woo-cheol said, “The reason our county was able to be selected as an excellent institution for crime prevention is thanks to the hard work of related organization officials who worked on-site for the safety of residents along with proactive administration,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to make Wando a safe and pleasant place to live.”
