Five Years Ago, Hillary Who Lost to Trump Reveals Her Buried Victory Speech
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] Hillary Clinton (74), former U.S. Secretary of State, revealed the victory speech she had to bury in her heart after losing to Republican candidate Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election, five years later.
According to The Times on the 8th (local time), Hillary appeared on the online paid lecture platform "MasterClass" and said, "I have never shown this to anyone," before taking out and reading the speech.
In the speech written assuming a presidential victory, Hillary said, "We sent a message to the world. That we upheld our values, that democracy is strong, and that in this country, you are not defined just because you are different."
The victory speech at the time was planned to be held at the New York Convention Center, which has glass walls, to symbolize a female candidate breaking the "glass ceiling" by being elected president of the United States.
During the reading of the speech, Hillary showed emotional signs when mentioning her late mother, who had already passed away at the time of the election.
Hillary said her mother was abandoned by her biological parents at the age of eight and grew up enduring abuse from her grandparents in California.
She especially recalled that when her mother was eight, she took a train to California with her grandparents, and she tearfully said she imagines the scene of boarding the train to meet that young mother.
Hillary said, "I want to approach that child (her mother as a child), trembling with fear, sit beside her, hold her tightly, and tell her that she will survive, have a wonderful family, and have three daughters. And though it’s hard to imagine, I want to tell her that one of those daughters will become the president of the United States," The Times reported, noting she shed tears.
Meanwhile, it is reported that participants in MasterClass receive a lecture fee of $100,000 plus 30% royalties.
