Anyone Ready to Embark on the Great Hobbang Journey?
The prime season of hot steamed buns emitting gentle steam has arrived?winter is here. But now, my attention is gradually shifting toward warm drinks and snacks. Retreat first in this unbearably cold weather!
Not only the classic red bean steamed bun but also the honey-sweet honey cream and honey sweet potato buns, and now the rose and Baehongdong steamed buns are asserting their presence. So, we have no choice but to give in once again. The four uniquely charming steamed buns, welcome! It’s your first time in my mouth, right?

Sweet Pumpkin Cheese Steamed Bun
Just the name guarantees a delicious steamed bun. Sweet sweet pumpkin paste meets cream cheese custard. The sweet pumpkin paste has a texture somewhat similar to slightly runny sweet pumpkin porridge.
The Sweet Pumpkin Cheese Steamed Bun instantly gives you the feeling of eating a dessert sold at a cafe the moment you take a bite. It’s a menu item that would feel perfectly at home even if sold at a cafe. I even want to try grilling it in a waffle maker! It’s a perfect match with coffee. This is a steamed bun I want to offer to those who don’t know how delicious sweet pumpkin is.

Warm and Spicy Rose Steamed Bun
Sausage and macaroni meet rose sauce. Gochujang and cream blend together to transform into rose sauce. The fact that the filling differs from the usual steamed bun ingredients is commendable, but the filling itself was somewhat disappointing. The amount of sauce and filling overall needs to be increased. I thought the rose sauce was the most unique point! Also, the dough was thicker than the filling, which left much to be desired.

Warm and Spicy Baehongdong Steamed Bun
Born from a collaboration between Nongshim and Samlip, the Baehongdong Steamed Bun’s biggest feature is the use of Baehongdong Bibimmyun sauce. It includes dongchimi (radish water kimchi) flavor, adding a slight umami. The packaging’s claim of generous filling raised expectations, and compared to other steamed buns, the filling is clearly abundant. It contains meat and vegetables mixed with Baehongdong sauce, giving a texture and taste similar to kimchi dumplings. It’s like the kimchi dumpling version of a steamed bun…?
The characteristic tanginess of Baehongdong sauce was mild, but the spiciness was well preserved. The crunchy texture of the vegetables was also pleasing. It would probably taste even better if cooked in an air fryer to achieve a crispy outside and moist inside.

Fermented Rice Dough Loaded Pizza Steamed Bun
Back when I thought only red bean, vegetables, and meat could be fillings for steamed buns, this one caused a sensation. And it’s not just any pizza steamed bun, but a Fermented Rice Dough Loaded Pizza Steamed Bun. From the first bite, I felt the seasoning was quite strong. This steamed bun, accompanied by savory cheese and rich tomato sauce, is dominated by the tomato sauce, which plays more than twice the role. The cheese needs to step up a bit. Because cheese is the heart of pizza…!
