According to the Gas Corporation on the 9th, the company recently broke ground on the Gwangju hydrogen production base, aiming to operate it by March 2023. Using natural gas supplied through pipelines, it can produce more than 4 tons of hydrogen per day. This amount is sufficient to supply approximately 10,000 hydrogen-powered passenger cars.
The corporation plans to supply 830,000 tons of hydrogen annually by 2030 by building hydrogen utilities tailored to the conditions and demand characteristics of domestic regions such as Changwon and Pyeongtaek, starting with the Gwangju hub-type hydrogen production base.
In addition, the company plans to develop the Pyeongtaek base into a carbon-neutral hydrogen "mega-station platform" that includes hydrogen production, import, supply, and utilization. The plan involves sending natural gas from the Pyeongtaek base to a hydrogen extraction facility to produce gaseous hydrogen, liquefying the hydrogen using LNG cold energy at minus 160 degrees Celsius, and supplying it to mobility sectors.
