Increased Convenience Store Fresh Food Demand Since COVID-19
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Convenience store Seven Eleven announced on the 8th that it will offer 'Guryongpo Gwamegi,' a representative winter delicacy, through direct shipment from the production area.
The 'Guryongpo Gwamegi Vegetable Set' sold at Seven Eleven consists of Gwamegi (200g) directly shipped from Guryongpo, Pohang, along with vegetables and sauces typically eaten with Gwamegi, such as sea mustard, gim (seaweed), napa cabbage, green onions, chili peppers, and garlic. There is no need for separate preparation or purchasing vegetables, allowing customers to enjoy it conveniently anytime and anywhere. It is portioned suitably for 2 to 3 people, and the selling price is 28,000 KRW.
Gwamegi is known for its unique chewy texture and is considered a winter delicacy nationwide, helping with cardiovascular disease prevention, anti-aging, anemia, and dieting. Seven Eleven has contracted with producers in the representative Gwamegi production area of Guryongpo, Pohang, and sells it through a direct delivery method.
Through this pre-order service, consumers can conveniently order fresh Gwamegi at a nearby convenience store without having to travel far. Pre-orders can be made until the end of January next year at Seven Eleven stores nationwide or via the mobile app (Seven App), and it will be delivered free of charge to the designated address within 2 to 3 days.
Meanwhile, demand for fresh food at convenience stores has continued to increase since the spread of COVID-19. In the case of Seven Eleven, after directly sourcing seasonal fruits such as Jeju Hallabong and Nonsan Seolhyang strawberries, it has been offering pre-order services for kimchi for kimjang since last month, and is also selling first-grade domestic Korean beef such as tomahawk and T-bone steaks for consumers enjoying home parties during the year-end season.
