Government Expresses "Serious Concern" Over Myanmar Military Regime's Prison Sentence for Suu Kyi
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The government expressed concern on the 7th over the Myanmar military regime sentencing State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and others to prison terms.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a spokesperson's statement saying, "We express serious concern over the verdict by the Myanmar court on State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi and President Win Myint regarding charges of causing social unrest, incitement, and violations of COVID-19 quarantine regulations."
It added, "We are concerned about the worsening humanitarian situation in Myanmar and hope for a swift return to democracy. We urge the cessation of violence against citizens, the release of detainees including State Counsellor Suu Kyi, and the implementation of the five ASEAN summit agreements."
Furthermore, it stated, "We will closely monitor the situation in Myanmar."
