Sunchon National University Holds 'International Exchange Day' Event with International Students
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon National University (President Ko Young-jin) announced on the 7th that it held the ‘International Exchange Day’ event where international students shared each other’s cultures and sentiments and promoted harmony.
The 1st ‘Suncheon National University International Exchange Day,’ held for the first time this year at Suncheon National University, brought together international students and their families, Korean students, and foreign residents in the region to revitalize university life, which had been subdued due to COVID-19, and to foster friendship through exchange.
The event was conducted in compliance with COVID-19 prevention measures by limiting the number of attendees by time slots and booths.
At the event venue, there were experience booths introducing the cultures of various countries called ‘WORLD in SCNU’ featuring international students from Asia, Europe, and the Americas; ‘SCNU Carrot Market,’ where faculty and staff donated items were sold at affordable prices; and the ‘International zone’ for promoting programs of the International Exchange Education Center.
Additionally, booths from related organizations such as the Suncheon City 2023 National Garden Expo promotion booth, Suncheon Police Station, and Gwangyang Foreigners Support Center were also set up to provide information for international students and offer consultations on various difficulties encountered in life in Korea.
International students visited booths by country, tried on traditional costumes, tasted snacks, shared each other’s cultures, and enjoyed traditional Korean games such as “Mugunghwa Kkot-i Pieosseumnida” (The Rose of Sharon Has Bloomed), Ddakji Chigi (Korean paper tile flipping game), and Ppobgi (Korean lottery game), widely known through the ‘Squid Game,’ learning about Korean sentiments while relieving stress accumulated due to COVID-19.
The secondhand market was filled with various items helpful for student life abroad, and it was bustling with activity upon hearing that the sales proceeds would be awarded as scholarships for international students.
