"Carbon Neutrality as a New Opportunity" '2021 Land, Infrastructure and Transport Technology Expo' Held from 8th to 10th
Metaverse-Based Carbon Neutrality Theme Pavilion and Other Achievement Sharing and Communication Programs Conducted
The '2021 Land, Infrastructure and Transport Technology Expo,' a showcase of achievements in land and transportation technology, will be held online for three days from the 8th to the 10th.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 7th that this event, hosted by the Ministry and organized by the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement, is celebrating its 11th edition this year under the theme "Carbon Neutrality, a New Opportunity for Land and Transportation Technology."
At the opening ceremony, former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will deliver a keynote speech titled "Sustainable Efforts for Coexistence and Mutual Prosperity in a Carbon Neutral Society," followed by a dialogue on "Industry Trends Preparing for the Carbon Neutral Era" with Executive Directors Ahn Yoon-gi (POSCO Research Institute) and Lee Moo-seok (Kolon Industries).
Additionally, a knowledge forum focused on carbon neutrality will be held. On the 9th, Professor Jung Yeon-woo of Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) will give a lecture titled "Industry Trends Centered on Carbon Neutrality," and on the 10th, Professor Park Jung-ho of Myongji University Graduate School of Industry, broadcaster Tyler, and CEO Shim Sung-bo of Nay & Company will conduct a live discussion on "Comprehensive Insights into Preparing Our Society for the Carbon Neutral Era."
During the event, a metaverse-based virtual space will host themed exhibition halls featuring over 100 outstanding land and transportation R&D achievements, organized by more than 80 participating institutions, across seven thematic exhibition halls.
In particular, the "2050 Carbon Neutrality Theme Hall" allows visitors to see the application of various R&D technologies in a virtual future hydrogen city based on hydrogen energy, including hydrogen plants and hydrogen charging stations. For example, videos showcase 14 representative achievements related to carbon neutrality, such as infrastructure construction and operation technologies for hydrogen energy utilization in hydrogen pilot cities like Ansan, Jeonju-Wanju, and Ulsan, as well as technologies where autonomous cooperative driving buses communicate with traffic control centers while operating in urban areas.
The seven exhibition halls categorized by land and transportation technology fields are operated as the Smart City Hall, Advanced Construction Hall, Future Transportation, Logistics and Railroad Hall, Unmanned Mobility and Aviation Hall, Safe Society Implementation Hall, Land and Transportation New Technology Hall, and Enterprise Growth Support Hall.
Furthermore, academic events such as the Land and Transportation R&D Achievement Presentation and international conferences, as well as business support activities including technology transaction briefings, technology value evaluation forums, and award ceremonies for the Land and Transportation Technology (Carbon Neutrality/AI & Big Data fields) idea contest, will be held.
Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Noh Hyung-wook stated, "The transition to a carbon-neutral society is not only an unavoidable demand of the times but should also be recognized as a new opportunity for our country to secure leadership," adding, "I hope this technology expo will serve as a venue to contemplate the role of land and transportation technology in pioneering the future and to facilitate active communication."
