[New Release] Dosan, Recovery to Everyday Life
Seondae-gyu, Chief Judge of Seoul Rehabilitation Court
Reflects on 9 Years of Insolvency Practice: Struggles and Research Achievements Included
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] 'Insolvency' and 'Recovery to Daily Life'. At first glance, it sounds like a contradictory story. It is easier to understand when you know that the ultimate goal of insolvency is 'discharge of debt'. Even if one is in a state of bankruptcy (insolvency), through the insolvency procedure, one can be discharged and return to an ordinary daily life.
'Insolvency, Recovery to Daily Life' is a book that collects insolvency-related columns published in various media outlets such as Asia Economy (Jeon Daegyu's 7 Wins and 8 Losses) from 2019 to last November by Jeon Daegyu, Chief Judge of the Seoul Rehabilitation Court (53 years old, 28th Judicial Research and Training Institute class). It contains the anguish and research results felt while handling insolvency cases for nine years. It also uses familiar materials such as cases based on actual incidents and current issues to make it easy for anyone to read.
In this book, Chief Judge Jeon introduces not only the perspective that debtors should be given a chance for a new start but also ways for creditors to cope with the debtor's insolvency situation. "Can Seong Gi-hun, the protagonist of the drama 'Squid Game,' solve his problems through a personal bankruptcy application?" "Is it possible to be discharged from debts incurred through virtual currency?" These questions are posed and answered.
Chief Judge Jeon is an expert in this field who passed the Certified Public Accountant exam (25th) and the Judicial Examination, and has long experience in insolvency work. He has previously published theoretical and practical books on debtor rehabilitation law such as 'Debtor Rehabilitation Law' and 'Insolvency and Local Taxes.'
As economic uncertainty continues due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, recovery to daily life is urgent for everyone. The Debtor Rehabilitation Law was initially introduced to protect creditors, but it has gradually opened a path for debtors to escape excessive debt and start anew.
Chief Judge Jeon said, "The reason I started writing columns was to make the difficult insolvency procedures or debtor rehabilitation law more accessible," and added, "I hope to give a message of hope to those entering debtor rehabilitation law or facing financial difficulties."
