[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) will hold ‘Soyoungssi Market × Merry Forest’ at Seongsu-dong Understand Avenue Cafe Seoul Forest for two days from the 10th to the 11th, promoting ethical consumption.
This event, conducted in a flea market style, is planned by OM Interactive, a local social enterprise, and involves about 30 teams including social enterprises, social ventures, and fair trade vendors. To celebrate the year-end, various programs with Christmas themes offering sights and activities for small business owners and residents will be prepared.
On the Understand Avenue road outside the cafe, a ‘Catch Your Luck! Event zone’ will be set up, featuring various events such as ‘Find Soyoungssi’ and ‘100% Winning Roulette Spin’.
Inside, the ‘Social Value! Flea Market zone’ selling various social economy products such as stationery, food, and accessories, and the ‘Good Consumption! Fair Trade zone’ where participants can experience and purchase fair trade products will be arranged to attract interest and engagement.
Soyoungssi Market (Social and Young Creator Culture Market) is a cooperative project held for the third year since it started in May 2019 with ‘Soyoungssi Market in Kings Cross’. It is a flea market where local residents, social enterprises, social ventures, young women entrepreneurs, and small business owners come together to realize social value and share mutual growth for revitalizing the local economy.
Earlier, the district declared the promotion of a fair trade city in 2019, and within about two years, achieved five criteria including the enactment of related ordinances and certification of fair trade practice institutions, receiving fair trade city certification from the Korea Fair Trade Village Committee in August this year.
In October, a ‘Visiting Fair Trade’ program was conducted with residents, and through experiential events like this Soyoungssi Market, the district plans to continue leading the realization of social value and promoting ethical consumption.
