[Asia Economy International Department Reporter] The Semeru volcano, located on the eastern part of Java Island in Indonesia, erupted on the 4th (local time), resulting in at least one death and 41 people suffering burns, according to local authorities.
The sudden eruption covered several nearby villages with volcanic ash, causing damage such as the destruction of bridges and houses.
Terrified residents of nearby villages began evacuating to safer areas in haste, but some struggled to move due to thick smoke obscuring their path, foreign media reported. Flights are still reported to be operating normally.
