On the 3rd, the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry selected eight promising startups and held the ‘Startup Day 99℃’ event. The selected companies introduced their businesses (IR) to key institution heads and local businesspeople.
About 170 local figures, including Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon, heads of related organizations, university presidents, and entrepreneurs, attended the event.
At the event, the chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce had a 10-minute talk session titled ‘The Heat of 99 Degrees and 1 Degree of Interest’ with Busan Mayor Park Hyung-joon and Kim Tae-jin, president of the Korea Startup Forum Busan Chapter. This was followed by a special lecture on ‘The New Normal Era Brought by Startups’ by Lee Jong-hoon, executive director of Lotte Ventures.
Chairman Jang In-hwa emphasized the necessity of open innovation and the importance of fostering startups during the 10-minute talk.
Mayor Park Hyung-joon said, “We will create a virtuous cycle startup ecosystem where local companies and startups coexist,” adding, “We will reorganize the Eurasia Platform innovation startup space and make the Bukhang area a startup hub.”
The eight companies presenting IR are startups possessing advanced industrial technologies such as AI, IoT, software, new material development, and robot manufacturing, which are lacking in the region.
During the networking session, startup representatives requested support for practical issues such as ▲priority adoption of startup products and solutions by local companies ▲investment for successful technology development and commercialization ▲providing information to build collaboration models between existing companies and startups through open innovation.
The Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry invited over 120 representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises and second-generation business owners to the event, creating a practical opportunity for startup investment.
After the participating companies’ IR presentations, awards were given to promising startups, including a grand prize of 5 million KRW, an excellence award of 3 million KRW, and innovation awards (two teams) of 1 million KRW each.
The Chamber stated, “It is expected that fostering startups will quench the thirst of the Busan economy, which is desperate to secure future growth engines.”
