Gwangju Nam-gu Residents Roll Up Sleeves Amid 'Blood Emergency'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] As the blood supply faces an emergency, life-sharing through group blood donations continues in Nam-gu, Gwangju.
According to the Korean Red Cross Gwangju Jeonnam Blood Center and Nam-gu Health Center on the 3rd, a total of 2,268 residents in the district have participated in group blood donations by the end of November this year to resolve the blood shortage issue.
By gender, 1,367 were male and 901 were female.
Among the group donors, schools in the district provided the greatest help in securing the blood supply.
Among high school students aged 16 and older, who are eligible to donate blood, 733 participated, accounting for 32.3% of all donors. Additionally, 127 university students (5.5%) in the district also rolled up their sleeves to share blood donations.
Employees of general companies, including military units and district offices, totaling 280 people, and 32 religious organization members also contributed to the blood supply effort.
Along with this, Nam-gu Office public officials plan to warmly conclude the year by practicing neighborly love through blood sharing, participating in the fourth group blood donation for blood supply on the 9th.
This year, Nam-gu Office public officials have participated in group blood donations three times in total, once each quarter, with 123 employees involved.
A Nam-gu official stated, “We will do our best to resolve the blood supply shortage caused by the decrease in blood donations and to ensure a stable blood supply through life-sharing.”
