"Friend, I Love You!" Gyeongbuk Sangju Youth Welfare Center Launches School Violence Prevention Campaign
Peer Counselors Leading, Engaging in Active Listening and Empathy
Slogan Chanting, Banner Display, and Placard Promotion, etc.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Youth Counseling Welfare Center in Sangju-si, Gyeongbuk, held a school violence prevention campaign called ‘Chinguya Saranghan Day’ on the 2nd.
The campaign, which started during school arrival time, was led by the Solian Peer Counseling Club and included activities such as promoting school violence prevention with banners and placards, shouting the slogan “Stop Violence!”, and providing information on violence prevention methods.
The center held an elementary school peer counselors’ union meeting for school violence prevention on November 17 and planned the campaign together with the peer counseling club of Sangju Jungang Elementary School, which belongs to the union.
‘Solian’ is a compound word of ‘solve’ meaning ‘to resolve’ and the suffix ‘ian’ meaning ‘person,’ signifying ‘a friend who listens to peers’ concerns and helps solve problems together.’
Peer counseling is a program where peers with similar experiences and values receive training in listening, empathy, and communication to help solve friends’ concerns or difficulties based on their own experiences.
It aims to promote a culture of empathy and consideration within peer groups and to foster emotional growth for both counselors and clients through the process of sharing concerns and providing support.
A peer counselor who participated in the campaign said, “I learned more about the role of peer counselors and felt proud to help friends. I hope all friends join in to enjoy time together while helping those struggling with school violence.”
