Gwangju Nam-gu 'Yeontan Coupon' Warms Vulnerable Households
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Nam-gu, Gwangju (District Mayor Kim Byung-nae) is actively promoting the briquette subsidy project supported respectively by the national and local governments to help vulnerable residents have a warm winter.
According to Nam-gu on the 30th, the amount of briquette coupons provided by the government this year to low-income residents in the district is worth approximately 470,000 KRW.
The support targets are 235 households of marginalized groups including basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, single-parent families, elderly living alone, and people with disabilities.
However, households that have benefited from the energy voucher and heating oil support projects are excluded from the support targets.
The government-provided briquette coupons can be obtained by visiting the local administrative welfare center of the resident’s neighborhood until December, and the usage period is until April next year.
In addition, Nam-gu will start supporting heating fuel for low-income and marginalized groups from January next year with subsidies provided by Gwangju City.
Through this project, 81 basic livelihood security households in the district will receive briquette coupons.
Regardless of benefits from the energy voucher and heating oil support projects, briquette coupons worth approximately 150,000 KRW will be provided, and residents can visit their local administrative welfare center in January next year. These briquette coupons can be used until April next year.
A Nam-gu official said, “We hope this will help reduce the heating cost burden for low-income households even a little,” and added, “We will do our best to provide briquette coupons so that people can spend this winter in warmer comfort.”
