Jinju City Selected as '2021 Korea World Festival City'
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam, has been selected as the '2021 Korea World Festival City.'
Jinju City announced on the 26th that it was selected as the 2021 Korea World Festival City at the 2021 International Festival and Events Association (IFEA) Korea Chapter Annual General Meeting and the 15th Pinnacle Awards Korea Ceremony.
The Pinnacle Awards Korea is a competition hosted by the IFEA Korea Chapter, established to build networks with global festivals and share festival information for the development of world festivals, introduced in 2007.
Jinju was highly evaluated for its capabilities as a world-class festival city, hosting representative festivals such as the Jinju Nongae Festival, Jinju Music Festival, Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival, and Gaecheon Arts Festival, as well as operating specialized festival organizations and resident participation programs.
The Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival received the 'Gold Award in the Quarantine and Safety Program category' in recognition of proposing festival hosting methods suitable for the COVID-19 era, such as small-scale dispersed lantern exhibitions.
This year, the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival is scheduled to be held from the 4th to the 31st of next month at Jinju Fortress and along the Namgang River in accordance with the phased recovery of daily life.
To ensure a safe festival, the city plans to cancel fireworks, food stalls, and experience programs expected to attract large crowds and operate a quarantine pass system following government quarantine guidelines.
