Strengthening Battery Separator Business... Appointed Former Head of Advanced Materials Division as Vice President
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] LG Chem is strengthening its new businesses such as battery materials. It has carried out executive personnel changes, including promoting the head of the Advanced Materials Business Division, who was in charge of the battery separator business, to vice president.
LG Chem announced on the 25th that the board of directors resolved the 2022 executive personnel appointments, including the appointment of Vice President Nam Cheol. With this personnel change, a total of 23 people were promoted, including 6 executive directors, 13 newly appointed managing directors, and 3 senior researchers and professional advisors, including Vice President Nam.
LG Chem conducted executive personnel appointments to realize ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management by strengthening organizational capabilities in each function such as R&D, production, and environmental safety.
Regarding this year's personnel appointments, LG Chem explained that the characteristics include ▲promotion based strictly on business performance ▲enhancement of organizational capabilities to foster growth engines such as eco-friendly business and battery materials ▲strengthening diversity in management by appointing female executives ▲and bold selection of young talents to nurture future business leaders, fundamentally strengthening business competitiveness.
Nam Cheol, currently serving as head of the Advanced Materials Business Division, was promoted to vice president in recognition of his outstanding achievements. Vice President Nam is an expert in management strategy, new business discovery, and commercialization, with an MBA from the Wharton School in the U.S. and experience at a global consulting firm. He was appointed head of the Advanced Materials Business Division in December 2020 and was recognized for strengthening new growth engines such as cathode materials and separators.
The executive directors promoted include Yang Sun-min, an expert in naphtha cracking process (NCC); Lee Geon-ju, who strengthened petrochemical production capabilities; Kim Sung-hyun, who stabilized the separator business; Kim Mu-yong, who concretized life sciences business strategy; Lee Kyu-ho, who played a major role in M&A; and Han Min-ki, who enhanced IT capabilities, totaling six promotions.

Additionally, to strengthen business capabilities, external talents were recruited again this year. Lee Chang-hyun, formerly of 3M in the U.S., was brought in as managing director for global new business and new customer development in the Advanced Materials Business Division, and Yang Tae-hoon, formerly of Genomatica in the U.S., was hired as senior researcher to expand research and commercialization capabilities in the eco-friendly energy (white bio) field.
