According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on the 25th, the government has prepared emergency transportation measures in cooperation with related ministries, local governments, and cargo transportation business organizations to minimize domestic and international logistics damage. These measures include permitting paid transportation by private cargo trucks, deploying idle vehicles and military-commissioned container cargo trucks, and supporting the securing of alternative transportation vehicles.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport issued a crisis alert level of "Caution" at 9 a.m. on the 19th in response to the Cargo Solidarity Union's strike notice from the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions Public Transport Workers' Union. If the strike occurs, the alert level will be raised to "Warning." Depending on the severity of the strike, an upgrade to "Severe" will also be considered.
According to the measures, paid transportation by private cargo trucks will be permitted. Owners or transportation companies possessing general cargo trucks (cargo trucks) with a maximum load capacity of 8 tons or more and tractor-type special vehicles among private cargo trucks can apply to the nearest city, county, or district office and receive a permit, allowing them to conduct paid transportation (business activities) from the 25th to the 27th.
Additionally, idle vehicles will be deployed to cargo owners and transportation companies facing difficulties in securing vehicles, and 100 military-commissioned container vehicles will be deployed to ports or inland logistics bases as needed.
In cases requiring urgent transportation, cargo companies or transportation businesses can contact the National Federation of Cargo Truck Transportation Brokerage Businesses or the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to receive support in securing available cargo trucks.
Park Jin-hong, Director of the Logistics Industry Division at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "We plan to utilize all available means to minimize domestic and international logistics disruptions during the Cargo Solidarity Union strike period."
