This decision is interpreted as being mindful of the controversy that arose earlier due to remarks that seemed to defend the former president.
Lee Yang-su, chief spokesperson of the People Power Party's Central Election Committee, stated on the same day, "Regarding the condolence visit to the former president, Candidate Yoon Seok-yeol has decided not to pay respects."

Initially, Candidate Yoon had expressed the intention to visit the late former President Jeon Du-hwan, saying he would "offer his sincere condolences," but ultimately shifted to not attending. On that day, just before having lunch with the preliminary presidential candidates, Yoon told reporters, "(Regarding the condolence visit) I don't know exactly when I will go yet, but considering the preparation schedule, since he is a former president, I think I should go."
