COVID-19 Response Overwork Death of Damyang-gun Public Official Recognized as Line of Duty Death

The Damyang County Government Employees' Union announced on the 23rd that the Ministry of Personnel Management decided at the Public Officials' Disaster Compensation Review Committee to recognize the line-of-duty death of the late Oh Jeong-gwan, who was in charge of infectious disease management at the Damyang County Health Center.
The Disaster Compensation Review Committee comprehensively judged the causal relationship between official duties and the death and decided on the line-of-duty death. As it was recognized as a line-of-duty death, survivor pensions and compensation will be paid in accordance with the Public Officials Disaster Compensation Act.
The deceased had been working emergency shifts since November last year to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, including managing COVID-19 vaccination, operating screening clinics, and quarantine facilities. On the day of death, he complained of severe fatigue, lost consciousness, was urgently transported to the hospital, but did not recover and passed away.
