Suspect in US Parade Vehicle Ramming Committed Crime Immediately After Domestic Violence Incident
5 Dead, Over 40 Injured
9 Including Children in Critical Condition
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] At a Christmas parade held in Wisconsin, USA, an SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) plowed into the procession, resulting in 5 deaths and over 40 injuries. The suspect committed the crime while fleeing after a domestic violence report had been filed.
According to major foreign media on the 22nd (local time), the suspect arrested for driving his SUV into the middle of the Christmas parade in Waukesha, a suburb of Milwaukee, the previous day, is Darrell Brooks (39).
Dan Thompson, Chief of the Waukesha Police Department, said, "A domestic violence report involving a weapon related to (Brooks) was received," and added, "Because all officers were deployed at the parade site, they could not respond immediately to the report."
Brooks drove his SUV into the parade procession at 4:39 PM the previous day, causing dozens of casualties. The police charged him with five counts, including first-degree intentional homicide.
Chief Thompson stated, "It does not appear that Brooks knew anyone among the parade participants," and "At the time, he was in an extremely agitated state after committing domestic violence."
