Jeonju Mayor Kim Seung-su Hustles to Secure National Budget
Request for National Budget Support in the National Assembly Meeting with Budget Review Key Figures Including Chairperson Lee Jong-bae
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Kim Seung-su, mayor of Jeonju, is actively working to secure national budget funds to lead the development of Jeonju, including the establishment of the Green New Deal Garden Knowledge Industry Center and the remodeling of Jeonju Baseball Stadium.
On the 18th, Mayor Kim visited the National Assembly and met with key figures involved in budget review from the National Assembly and government, including Lee Jong-bae, chairman of the Budget and Accounts Committee, other National Assembly Budget Committee members, and senior officials from the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s Budget Office, to explain major projects of Jeonju and actively request national funding support.
Mayor Kim, along with Lee Woon-cheon, a member of the People Power Party (proportional representation), met with Lee Jong-bae, chairman of the Budget and Accounts Committee and a People Power Party member from Chungbuk Cheongju City, who is also a companion member from Jeonbuk, to urge support for the inclusion of budgets for five key projects promoted by Jeonju.
Additionally, since the approval of increased budgets requested by the National Assembly’s standing committees and the Budget Committee requires consent from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Mayor Kim emphasized the necessity of projects such as the Jeonju Baseball Stadium remodeling to Kang Wan-gu, Social Budget Review Officer at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, who is in charge of the budget under the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, and sought his cooperation.
He also requested assistance from Han Byung-do, a member of the Democratic Party (Iksan City B, Jeonbuk), and Jeong Dae-young, a professional committee member of the Political Affairs Committee, to ensure that Jeonju’s projects are reflected during the budget review process.
The projects Jeonju is focusing on to secure additional national funds include △Establishment of the Green New Deal Garden Knowledge Industry Center △Remodeling of Jeonju Baseball Stadium △Construction of the Korean Cultural Prototype Content Experience and Exhibition Hall △Establishment of K-Film Production Base and Video Industry Hub △Construction of Jeonju Independent Film House.
The city plans to continue efforts to prevent cuts to the increased budget amounts approved by each standing committee and to propose increases for projects not yet reflected, maintaining full efforts until the national budget for the next year is finalized.
