Seo-gu Gwangju to Host "Cultural Festival" at Omaebulmang Healing Park
[Asia Economy Honam News Bureau, Shin Dongho] On November 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the Seo-gu District of Gwangju Metropolitan City will host the "Warm Companionship Filled with Memories" cultural festival at Omaebulmang Healing Park, located within Pungam Sports Park, which has been designated as a Dementia Safety Park.
According to Seo-gu District on November 18, the event will feature exhibitions of videos and photos from the Dementia Safety Center, showcasing the journey toward making Seo-gu a dementia-free and happy community. The festival is designed to foster empathy for overcoming dementia and to promote intergenerational communication among dementia patients, their families, and local residents.
The event will offer a variety of experience booths and time-specific games to help participants recall memories and relieve stress and depression through physical activities. These include a school uniform experience, calligraphy, instant photo printing, ddakji (traditional Korean slap-match game), dalgona game, and "The Mugunghwa Flower Has Bloomed" (a traditional Korean children's game), among others.
There will also be an awards ceremony for outstanding participants in the "Happiness Farm" urban gardening activity, recognizing those who have diligently cared for their crops and fostered a sense of community with their neighbors.
An official from the Seo-gu Dementia Safety Center stated, "We hope this event will help alleviate the fatigue and frustration caused by limited outdoor activities due to social distancing, and serve as a source of vitality for returning to daily life. We will continue to strive to create opportunities for communication and empathy to overcome dementia."
