National Theater Hosts Cultural Market 'Art in Marche'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The National Theater will hold ‘Art in March?’ on the 20th at the cultural plaza in front of the Haeoreum Theater. It is a cultural market created together with the farmers' market March?.
‘Art in March?’ is a cultural market combining the farmers' market March?’s ‘March?@’ and musical performances. ‘March?@’ is a combination of the French word for market ‘March?’ and the English preposition ‘at (@)’, meaning a market that can be held anywhere. It is an urban market created by environmental activists and cultural planners who gathered to trade trustworthy food, and has been held in various spaces such as parks, art museums, and churches since 2012. This is the first time it is held at the National Theater.
About 40 teams of farmers, chefs, and artisans, along with 4 music groups, will participate in this event. As it is a market where producers and consumers meet directly, visitors can purchase eco-friendly agricultural products grown by farmers using their own farming methods, food made by chefs using seasonal ingredients, and handcrafted items completed stitch by stitch by artisans. On a stage set up at one side of the plaza, singer-songwriters Kim Bakjaejae and Oh Soyoung, world music trio Vandi, and violinist Tak Bonui will perform soothing music to add vibrancy.
The National Theater and the farmers' market March? make various efforts to create an eco-friendly market. When purchasing goods with reusable shopping bags and personal tableware, a small discount or gift is provided depending on the participating team. Also, posters from finished performances are recycled into bags that can hold agricultural products, and banners used for performance promotion are repurposed to make shade tents for the audience. The outdoor stage is made from recycled wood called ‘Pallet’.
