Muju-gun Offers Free Partial Lunar Eclipse Experience at Muju Bandibyeol Astronomy Science Museum
[Muju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hanho] Muju-gun announced on the 18th that it will hold a partial lunar eclipse observation event at Bandi Star Astronomy Science Museum located in Bandi Land, Seolcheon-myeon, where part of the moon is obscured by the Earth.
The partial lunar eclipse observation experience will be held from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on the 19th for 1 hour and 30 minutes in the auxiliary observation room of the astronomy science museum.
Upon entering the Bandi Star Astronomy Science Museum, visitors can experience various programs including lunar eclipse observation with the naked eye and astronomical telescopes, astronomy lectures and explanations about the lunar eclipse phenomenon, moon photography using smartphones, and finding autumn constellations.
A partial lunar eclipse occurs when part of the moon is covered by the Earth's umbra. This lunar eclipse will begin at 4:18:24 PM on the 19th when part of the moon is obscured, but since the moon rises at 5:16 PM, observation is possible only after moonrise.
The maximum eclipse will occur at 6:02:54 PM, and the partial eclipse will end at 7:47:24 PM on the same day.
The maximum obscuration of this partial lunar eclipse is 0.978, meaning most of the moon will be covered and can be easily distinguished with the naked eye.
If you miss this partial lunar eclipse, the next lunar eclipse visible in Korea will be a total lunar eclipse on November 8, 2022, so you will have to wait until then.
The observation event will be conducted in compliance with quarantine rules such as wearing masks and maintaining appropriate social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
