1992 New COVID-19 Cases Nationwide by 6 PM...42 More Than Yesterday (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jihwan] On the 17th, new COVID-19 cases continued to emerge across the country. For the second consecutive day following the previous day, the number of confirmed cases is likely to exceed 3,000.
According to the quarantine authorities and local governments including Seoul City, from midnight to 6 p.m. on the same day, a total of 1,992 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported nationwide. This figure is the combined total from 16 provinces and cities excluding Busan, which does not release interim case counts among the 17 metropolitan cities and provinces.
Compared to 1,950 confirmed cases reported at the same time the previous day, this is an increase of 42 cases. It is also 439 cases more than the 1,553 cases recorded at the same time one week ago on the 10th.
By region, 1,556 cases (78.1%) were reported in the Seoul metropolitan area, and 436 cases (21.9%) in non-metropolitan areas. By city and province, the numbers are Seoul 992, Gyeonggi 394, Incheon 170, Gyeongnam 80, Chungnam 70, Daegu 64, Gyeongbuk and Gangwon 47 each, Gwangju and Jeonbuk 27 each, Jeonnam 23, Chungbuk 16, Daejeon 15, Jeju 14, and Ulsan 6. Among the 16 provinces and cities reporting, Sejong has not yet reported any confirmed cases.

Since there is still time until midnight when the count closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced at 0:00 on the 18th is expected to increase further. The previous day saw an increase of 1,237 cases from the 6 p.m. count, closing at a final total of 3,187 cases.
