Highly Pathogenic AI Confirmed at Eumseong Duck Farm... Fourth Poultry Case This Fall
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for Avian Influenza (AI) announced on the 16th that highly pathogenic AI was confirmed at a meat duck farm in Eumseong, Chungbuk. This is the fourth case of highly pathogenic AI confirmed in poultry since this fall, and the third case in Eumseong alone.
The farm is located within a 3 km radius of a quail farm in Eumseong where highly pathogenic AI was detected on the 8th. Following a suspected case reported the previous day, the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency conducted a detailed examination and confirmed the diagnosis. Approximately 12,000 ducks will be culled. The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters is implementing preventive culling, access control, and intensive disinfection measures at the farm.
Since autumn, highly pathogenic AI cases have been confirmed consecutively at a quail farm in Eumseong on the 8th, a meat duck farm in Eumseong on the 9th, and a meat duck farm in Naju, Jeonnam on the 13th. The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters stated, "As the influx of migratory birds into the country increases, the risk of highly pathogenic AI outbreaks nationwide is high," and urged, "If any abnormalities such as death or decreased egg production are observed in farmed poultry, please report immediately to the quarantine authorities."
