Suncheon-si Implements Policies Reflecting the Thoughts and Voices of Youth
2021 Suncheon Youth Policy Expo Held
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 16th that it successfully held this year’s ‘Suncheon Youth Policy Expo’ yesterday at the Suncheonman Ecological Culture Education Center.
This expo was organized as a platform to support youth-led social participation activities and to share the thoughts of young people regarding the local community.
At this expo, 80 youths from 18 teams proposed policies in various fields.
▲ Safety field (3 policies related to improving electric scooter safety, eradicating school violence, improving Onnuri Bicycle usage) ▲ Education field (self-quarantine policies for youth, student club management, Dream Project, free reading rooms accessible to all ages) ▲ Ecology and tourism field (Haeryongcheon we create, Wonnchang Station development, Dongcheon Walk APP development) ▲ Transportation field (increasing city buses during school commute times) ▲ Welfare field (support for installing mini libraries at bus stops near schools, installation of Ttasum snack refrigerators, creating shelters for stray cats, establishing Youth Happiness Day, developing a mobile payment system for students), etc., presenting problems and solutions for the local community from the youth perspective.
The 18 policies proposed by the youths will be selected and announced on the 18th after on-site presentations and online and on-site voting.
One participating youth said, “I hope all the policies proposed by the youth will be reflected, but I also hope that realistic reviews will gradually resolve the problems of the local community.”

Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon said, “We will strive to ensure that the policy proposals of the youth do not remain mere suggestions but are realized,” and added, “We will further support youth participation in community activities so that they can grow into democratic citizens.”
