Gwangju Office of Education Holds 'School Daily Recovery Support Team Meeting' to Discuss Response Measures
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education held an 'Emergency Gwangju Metropolitan City School Daily Recovery Support Team Meeting' to discuss countermeasures in response to the increase in confirmed students in schools within the jurisdiction along with the phased daily recovery.
According to the Office of Education on the 15th, the phased daily recovery in the education sector is being promoted step by step to implement a safe school daily recovery under a thorough quarantine system, comprehensively considering academic schedules such as the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) and vacations.
With the overall daily recovery in society progressing, quarantine management in schools where students with relatively low vaccination rates are concentrated is becoming increasingly important. Considering the possibility of increased infections within schools due to daily recovery and concerns about relaxation of quarantine measures, maintaining and complying with basic quarantine rules is being emphasized.
Recently, due to the occurrence of many confirmed student cases from family infections and concerns about group infections within schools, guidance was also provided through a superintendent’s letter on the 9th, but cooperation from the educational community and the general public is urgently needed to protect students.
Accordingly, an 'Emergency Gwangju Metropolitan City Daily Recovery Support Team Meeting' was held on the 10th, followed by a video conference with elementary and middle school principals on the 12th to strengthen quarantine within schools. Through this, they requested thorough personal quarantine for schools and students in vulnerable areas for COVID-19 vaccination, raising awareness among school members about COVID-19 infections within schools, and cooperation in efforts to prevent relaxation of school quarantine measures.
Lee Byung-kwan, Director of the Physical Education and Arts Convergence Education Division at the Gwangju Office of Education, said, "In the event of group infections within schools, we ask for parents’ understanding and cooperation regarding unavoidable remote classes and student care," and added, "We urge everyone to cooperate with the government’s vaccination policy, wear masks properly, ventilate frequently by simultaneously opening windows and doors to allow cross-ventilation, and promptly get tested if any suspicious symptoms appear, strictly adhering to the basic quarantine rules emphasized by the health authorities."
