Gwangju Dong-gu, Enactment of Basic Ordinance on Population Policy
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Dong-gu, Gwangju (Mayor Im Taek) announced on the 15th that it will enact the Basic Ordinance on Population Policy to establish an institutional foundation for promoting population policies, including proactive responses to demographic changes and the basic direction of population policy.
Dong-gu established a dedicated population policy team in the organizational restructuring in the second half of this year to comprehensively manage and operate population policy and support for single-person households. On the 5th, the draft of the "Dong-gu Basic Ordinance on Population Policy" passed the 2nd plenary session of the 288th Dong-gu Council extraordinary meeting.
The ordinance was enacted to create an institutional foundation for improving the quality of life of residents and sustainable regional development by setting mid- to long-term directions for population policy and revitalizing policies in accordance with the government's "Basic Plan for Low Birthrate and Aging Society."
This ordinance includes ▲ the responsibilities of the district mayor ▲ establishment of a basic population policy plan reflecting Dong-gu's population characteristics and annual implementation plans ▲ formation, operation, and deliberation of the Population Policy Deliberation Committee ▲ formation and operation of a private promotion group to carry out population education and awareness improvement publicity activities ▲ policy adjustments through population impact assessments.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu, said, "With the enactment of the Basic Ordinance on Population Policy, we will actively respond to demographic changes such as the increase in single-person and youth households," adding, "We will do our best to create a 'Dong-gu where people want to live and visit' through continuous population inflow policies, including restoring the population to 100,000 and improving residential conditions, as well as population policies tailored to different social groups."
