Chosun University Student Jeong Hee-tae Wins Top Prize at Digital Forensic Challenge

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Chosun University announced on the 15th that Jeong Hee-tae, a student in the Department of Computer Engineering (advisor Professor Kim Young-sik), won the Grand Prize at the 'Digital Forensic Challenge 2021.'
At the final workshop of the 2021 Korean Society of Information Security and Cryptology Digital Forensics Research Group held over two days from the 4th, the K2YPLJ team, consisting of Jeong Hee-tae (3rd year), president of Chosun University's 'Hacker Login' club, students from Jeonju University, and employees from Plainbit-In the Forest, totaling six members, took 2nd place in the 'Challenge' category, receiving a prize of 5 million KRW and the Korean Society of Information Security and Cryptology President's Award.
The 'Challenge' category they won involved solving problems related to anti-forensics and evidence analysis, which were posted on the competition website at the beginning of each month, with the final ranking determined by cumulative total scores.
Jeong Hee-tae said, "Since this is an international-level competition lasting five months, the difficulty was high, but I believe it was a great opportunity to significantly improve my digital forensic skills. I am happy and honored to finish in 2nd place with my teammates despite everyone’s busy schedules." He added, "I will continue to participate in various activities in the digital forensics field and strive to grow further."
Meanwhile, on the 5th, the Korean Society of Information Security and Cryptology and the National Intelligence Service held the 'Digital Forensic Challenge 2021' awards ceremony at The-K Hotel in Seoul, attended by Kim Sun-hee, 3rd Deputy Director of the National Intelligence Service, and officials from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, National Police Agency, National Security Research Institute, National Forensic Service, and the Korean Society of Information Security and Cryptology.
