Dongshin University Department of Information Security Wins 1st to 3rd Place in Web Vulnerability Hackathon Competition

View original image[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Dongshin University announced on the 8th that three teams from the Department of Information Security's hacking club won the Grand Prize, Excellence Award, and Encouragement Award at the '2021 2nd Honam Cybersecurity Conference Web Vulnerability Hackathon Competition.'
The competition was co-hosted by Gwangju City, the Honam branch of the Korea Institute of Information Security & Cryptology, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and the National Intelligence Service branch, and was held on the 4th and 5th at the National Asian Culture Complex.
Fifteen teams (54 participants) who advanced through the online preliminary round competed in the finals, where one team won the Grand Prize, two teams received the Excellence Award, and three teams were honored with the Encouragement Award.
The hacking club 'Hokiseu' team, consisting of third-year students Kim Chang-seok and Choi Ye-won, and first-year students Gong Seung-jun and Lee Yoon-ah from Dongshin University's Department of Information Security, took first place in the finals, receiving the Grand Prize and a prize of 1,000,000 KRW.
Members of the same club, Kim Joo-won and Son Na-young (third-year), Cha Myung-do and Lim Moon-joo (first-year), formed the 'Ori' team, which tied for second place and received the Excellence Award along with a prize of 500,000 KRW. The club 'Sesangeul Deungjigo,' composed of fourth-year students Choi Jeong-an, Kwak Seong-min, Seo Jeong-hyun, and Lee Se-chan from the Department of Information Security, won the Encouragement Award and a prize of 200,000 KRW for tying for third place.
Professor Lee Dong-hwi of Dongshin University's Department of Information Security (Head of the Honam branch of the Korea Institute of Information Security & Cryptology) said, "Students who have developed practical field skills through the web vulnerability hacking projects operated by the department are achieving outstanding results in various competitions. We will do our best to support the students in further enhancing their practical skills related to their major."
