Sancheong-gun Creates 'Samyeonbul' Representing South and North, Yeongho and Nam at Geobeosa Temple
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] At Geoboesa Temple in Sancheong, Gyeongnam, the birthplace of Great Monk Seongcheol, a 'Four-Faced Buddha' symbolizing the wish for harmony among the South and North, and the Yeongho and Nam regions, has been created.
On the 8th, Sancheong County announced that as part of a tourism resource development project linked to Seongcheol Park at Geoboesa in Mookgok-ri, Danseong-myeon, they have established a 'Symbolic Sculpture of Great Monk Seongcheol's Birthplace.'
The sculpture is a standing figure measuring 3.8 meters wide and 6.1 meters high, located in front of Geoboesa, the birthplace of Monk Seongcheol. Referring to the Four-Faced Buddha style from the Three Kingdoms period, the sculpture features Yaksa Buddha, Amitabha Buddha, Maitreya Buddha, and Shakyamuni Buddha engraved on the east, west, south, and north sides respectively.
The unveiling ceremony for the sculpture was held on the 6th. Attendees included Lee Jae-geun, the governor of Sancheong County; Shim Jae-hwa, chairman of the Sancheong County Council; Venerable Wontak, head monk of Geoboesa; and Venerable Suwan, president of the Sancheong County Buddhist Temple Association.
