Jangseong-gun Focuses on Western Region Development Centered on Hwangryonggang River
[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] Development plans for the ‘Western Zone’ of Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do are becoming more concrete one by one, drawing great interest from local residents.
According to the county on the 4th, the Western Zone refers to the area located in the western region centered around Hwangryonggang River, including Samgye-myeon and Samseo-myeon.
It is well known as a major production area for fruits such as apples and grapes due to its fertile land and favorable climate for farming.
Last year, the establishment of the National Subtropical Crop Demonstration Center was confirmed in Sangdo-ri, Samgye-myeon, making it a forward base for national subtropical crop research in preparation for climate change.
To ensure the successful operation of projects within the region, including agriculture, it is important to have smooth transportation conditions.
The county is working to improve transportation in the Western Zone to enhance distribution efficiency and tourism convenience, and to promote balanced development.
First, the ‘Gwangju Hanam~Jangseong Samgye Wide-area Road (Local Road No. 734) Construction Project’ is attracting attention.
By investing 116.2 billion KRW including national funds to build a new four-lane road, the Advanced 3 District AI Complex, Bitgreen National Industrial Complex, and Jangseong Sangmu Peace Park will be connected, forming a wide-area transportation network.
Scheduled for completion in 2026, this will promote population inflow and industrial development in the Western Zone.
Along with this, the ‘Donghwa JC~Seosam Local Road No. 49 Connection Project’ is also being actively promoted.
After persistently proposing the project to Jeollanam-do and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport since 2009, the county achieved the result of passing the government’s preliminary feasibility study in August.
It is expected to bring about the development of the Western Zone and a revolutionary reduction in logistics costs.
As transportation conditions improve and logistics infrastructure is established in the Western Zone, the specialized logistics company ‘SPC Jangseong Logistics’ has also moved into Donghwa-myeon, marking a positive development.
It is expected to create employment for about 1,000 young people in the future.
Development in the tourism sector is also drawing attention.
The construction of Sangmu Peace Park, worth 19.2 billion KRW, and the ecological stream restoration project for Pyeongnimcheon, with an investment of 20 billion KRW, are being promoted with the goal of completion before 2022.
With abundant attractions such as the Suyangho Deck Road, Pyeongnim Dam Rose Park, and Dreamville Apple Theme Park, another premium tourist destination is expected to be born following the Jangseongho Waterfront Trail.
Development in the residential sector is also clear. The 150-unit Samgye-myeon LH Phase 4 rental housing is currently being occupied, and various medium- and large-sized apartments are continuously being built.
County Governor Yoo Doo-seok said, “The Western Zone, with convenient transportation and a nature-friendly environment, is emerging as a new center leading Jangseong’s development. Together with Hwangryonggang River, we will develop Suyangho as Jangseong tourism’s ‘dual powerhouse’ and make it a mecca of waterfront tourism.”
