Park Jung-ho: "Metaverse Will Become Future Space for Work and Communication"... SK ICT Tech Summit 2021 Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] The ‘SK ICT Tech Summit,’ which offers a glimpse into the present and future of SK Group’s ICT technology, opened on the 3rd.
According to SK Telecom, the SK ICT Tech Summit, held over two days from the 3rd to the 4th, features participation from 22 SK Group affiliates showcasing a total of 114 technologies across nine fields including artificial intelligence (AI), metaverse (extended virtual world), cloud, and mobility. This event, held since 2016, aims to share core technologies that are leading SK’s present and future to create synergy. This year, over 8,000 participants from Korea and abroad are joining online.
At the opening, Park Jung-ho, Vice Chairman and Chair of the SK ICT Committee, appeared as an avatar on SK Telecom’s metaverse platform ‘ifland’ to experience various SK technologies. Vice Chairman Park stated, “Just as mobile internet evolved over the past 20 years to become part of our daily lives, the metaverse will evolve into the future workspace and communication space.”
The keynote speeches featured Professor Jung Ji-hoon, Kim In-sook, CEO of Unity Korea, and Jeon Jin-soo, Head of SK Telecom’s Metaverse CO, who discussed the present and future of the metaverse on ifland.
The SK CTO panel discussion, themed ‘Technology for a Better Tomorrow,’ included Kim Yoon, head of SK Telecom’s T3K, Cha Ji-won, group leader at SK㈜ C&C, and Do Seung-yong from SK Hynix, discussing the evolution direction of SK ICT technology and the role of technology for a better future.
At this year’s ‘SK ICT Tech Summit,’ research achievements were shared including ▲ SK Telecom’s first domestically developed AI semiconductor ‘SAPEON’ ▲ innovative cases through SK㈜ C&C’s digital transformation one-stop service ‘Digital Doctor’ ▲ and manufacturing equipment automation and intelligence cases via SK Hynix’s integrated 3D platform.
On the 4th, as a pre-event of the ‘SK ICT Tech Summit,’ presentations and awards for outstanding teams were held for university and graduate students who participated in the month-long “AI Challenge for Our Society.” The event was hosted by SK Group’s learning platform mySUNI and supported by Microsoft. Among 76 teams and 139 university and graduate students, teams from KAIST and Sungkyunkwan University took first place.
