Hampyeong-gun's '2021 Korea National Fragrance Festival' Weekend Preview Gains Popularity
Over 8,800 Visitors in Two Days... Continuous Day and Night Opening Receives Positive Response, Festival Atmosphere Intensifies
[Hampyeong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] The '2021 Korea Chrysanthemum Festival' is set to open on the 5th, and it has been revealed that even before the official opening, there has been a strong response with visitors making advance visits over the past weekend.
Hampyeong County in Jeollanam-do announced on the 2nd that 8,782 visitors came over the two days from the 30th to the 31st of last month, the weekend before the opening of the '2021 Korea Chrysanthemum Festival.' The continuous day and night opening of the Expo Park helped disperse visitors and contributed to revitalizing the local economy.
The enthusiastic advance visits by visitors are attributed to the nationwide desire for festival tourism following the cancellation of most nationwide festivals last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the government's implementation of 'With Corona' (gradual return to daily life).
Additionally, by encouraging dispersed visits through continuous opening before the official festival opening, the festival is being operated as a 'safe and secure festival' by reducing COVID-19 infection rates. With the resumption of local festivals and the influx of external tourists, it is expected to serve as a signal for revitalizing the depressed local economy.
County Governor Lee Sang-ik said, "Previously, the event site was only temporarily opened during the festival period, but this year, the Hampyeong Expo Park area was opened before the festival so that visitors can fully enjoy the autumn chrysanthemum fragrance." He added, "I hope that the festival this year will help recover the depressed economy and bring vitality to the difficult daily lives of self-employed people and small business owners who have suffered from the prolonged COVID-19 situation."
