[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] CEOs of SK, LG, Lotte, and POSCO Group gathered in one place to share sustainable development management strategies and reaffirm their commitment to achieving carbon neutrality.
The Korea Business Council for Sustainable Development (KBCSD), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, held the high-level public-private platform 'KBCSD Leaders Forum: 3rd Sustainable Development Business Innovation Forum' on the 29th. Attendees included Lee Kyung-ho, Chairman of KBCSD; Heo Dong-soo, Honorary Chairman of KBCSD and Honorary Chairman of GS Caltex; Lee Hyung-hee, Chairman of the SK SUPEX Council SV (Social Value) Committee; Shin Hak-cheol, Vice Chairman of LG Chem; Kim Kyo-hyun, Head of Lotte Group Chemical BU; and Kim Hak-dong, President of POSCO.
In his welcoming remarks, Honorary Chairman Heo said, "The transition to a decarbonized society demands changes and innovations not only in industrial production methods but also in all aspects of life." He added, "Only when the three elements of astronomical investment in technology development, the supply infrastructure to support it, and policy innovation that induces changes in consumer behavior form a virtuous cycle can we fulfill the era's mission of carbon neutrality."
He continued, "It is time for the domestic industry to design long-term growth strategies related to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance). The first step is for the industry to secure independent technological capabilities related to ESG through the government's full financial investment support," he emphasized.
In the subsequent presentations and special discussions, SK highlighted the importance of ESG-based business model (BM) innovation and ESG performance measurement as part of its ESG management strategy. POSCO shared strategies for hydrogen reduction steelmaking, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), and expansion of secondary battery material businesses. Lotte Chemical discussed its green hydrogen business strategy.
