Public Procurement Service Strengthens Sanctions on Military Meal Hygiene Violations
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Public Procurement Service (PPS) will strengthen sanctions against military meal suppliers with poor hygiene.
On the 28th, the PPS announced that it will enhance sanctions such as suspension of transactions against companies with defects, such as foreign substances mixed in military meal items, to create a safe military meal environment.
In the military meal industry, there have been cases where companies with foreign substances mixed in meal supplies or mold occurrence were reselected as successful bidders in the next contract without significant sanctions.
However, starting next year, based on revised regulations related to military meals, during the qualification review for selecting military meal suppliers, companies that violate the Food Sanitation Act or receive warning letters can be given higher penalty points. This structure makes it practically difficult for unhygienic companies to win bids.
In particular, the PPS plans to add special conditions to military meal items purchased through multiple supplier contracts, including a clause to suspend transactions for a certain period if defects occur, and is also considering measures to exclude companies that damage trust related to quality from future contracts.
