Gwangju Fire Headquarters Conduct Joint Drill for Accident Preparedness at Jisan IC Opening
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Fire Safety Headquarters announced on the 28th that it conducted a joint training exercise with related agencies to prepare for vehicle fires and traffic accidents ahead of the opening of the Jisan IC exit on the 2nd Ring Road.
Scheduled to open on November 15, Jisan IC differs from the usual method of exiting using the right lane by exiting from the first lane to the left lane.
In case of congestion, there is a possibility of traffic accidents and vehicle fires caused by speeding vehicles in the first lane.
This training focused on preventing additional secondary accidents through rapid initial response via a collaborative system among related agencies in the event of an accident.
The training was organized by Dongbu Fire Station and Gwangju Circulation Road Investment Co., Ltd., with participation from five related agencies including Bukbu Fire Station, Dongbu Police Station, and the 119 Special Rescue Unit. Over 60 personnel and about 30 pieces of equipment, including support vehicles and special rescue vehicles, were mobilized.
The on-site training assumed a fire caused by a traffic accident due to congestion at the first lane exit near the Sansu Tunnel exit in the direction from Duam IC to Sansu IC. It involved traffic control around the accident by circulation road officials and fire suppression and injured person rescue by the Dongbu and Bukbu Fire Station dispatch teams entering the accident site.
Especially since the accident location is on a vehicle-only road, the exercise focused on checking the establishment of a collaborative system among related agencies, including ▲ vehicle control by the road management authority ▲ rapid arrival of dispatched firefighting forces on site ▲ securing safety at the accident scene.
Go Minja, head of the Fire Safety Headquarters, said, “The exit method of the newly opened Jisan IC is unfamiliar and the tunnel is adjacent, so a small accident could potentially lead to a major one. We will comprehensively review the results of this training and strengthen practical response capabilities suitable for tunnel accidents and disaster situations on vehicle-only roads.”
