Suspect in 'Saengsubyeong Incident' Buys Poison Online Using Another Company's Name
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] In an incident at a company in Seocho-gu, Seoul, where two employees lost consciousness after drinking water from bottled water, it has been confirmed that the suspect, Kang Mo (35), an employee of the same company, purchased poison online.
According to the police on the 25th, Kang purchased toxic substances through a research reagent specialty shopping site at the end of last month. He registered his affiliated institution using the business registration certificate of another company that had a contract with his company and then purchased the substances.
The police are currently focusing their investigation on identifying the motive through digital forensics and interviews with related parties.
Among the male and female employees who were victims, the male employee who was unconscious and hospitalized in the intensive care unit died on the 23rd. The police requested an autopsy from the National Forensic Service. If the autopsy confirms that the poison was the direct cause of death, the charges will be changed to murder or similar offenses. Toxic chemical substances were detected in the blood of the male employee who collapsed, and the same substances were found at Kang’s residence. However, no poison was detected in the female employee’s blood.
On the 10th of this month, another employee at the same company collapsed after drinking a beverage but recovered after treatment. The same poison was detected in the beverage that this employee drank.
