According to Chosun University on the 25th, the ‘2021 Fall Academic Conference’ hosted by the Korea Geothermal and Hydrothermal Energy Society is an award that recognizes outstanding technicians and companies (organizations) contributing to the research and development of advanced technologies and products in the geothermal and hydrothermal fields and commercialization, and honors those who contribute to the advancement of geothermal and hydrothermal technologies.
Yong Jun-hyuk presented a paper titled ‘Analysis of Heat Transfer Characteristics of Low-Temperature Solution Heat Exchanger According to Temperature and Flow Rate Changes’ and received the Excellent Paper Award.
The paper dealt with the heat transfer characteristics of a low-temperature solution heat exchanger, a key component of absorption-type cooling and heating units operated by geothermal and wastewater heat. Yong Jun-hyuk demonstrated that as the inlet temperature and mass flow rate on the high-temperature side of the low-temperature solution heat exchanger increase, the heat transfer rate and overall heat transfer coefficient of the plate heat exchanger also increase. This is an example of increasing the heat transfer rate by varying the temperature and flow rate of the absorption-type cooling and heating unit.
The absorption-type cooling and heating unit is a representative system that utilizes geothermal and wastewater heat as heat sources, and the paper is expected to contribute to the advancement of research in the geothermal and hydrothermal fields.
Meanwhile, the ‘Chosun University Solar Thermal-Based Seasonal Thermal Storage System Optimization Technology Advanced Track Energy Workforce Training Project Group’ promoted by Chosun University has been receiving project funding of 2.67 billion KRW over five years since 2017 to train advanced personnel.
Yong Jun-hyuk is participating in the project group as part of this project. The ‘Solar Thermal-Based Seasonal Thermal Storage System Optimization Technology Advanced Track’ involves five departments (Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Systems Engineering, Optical Technology Engineering, Control and Instrumentation Engineering, Advanced Materials Engineering), and seven professors including lead professor Jo Hong-hyun, seven companies, and master’s and doctoral students participate to foster specialized professionals in seasonal thermal storage systems through interdisciplinary collaboration.
