Yongsan-gu Opens Dream Start Online Astronomy and Space Science Class
From 5:30 PM on the 22nd, a 3-hour non-face-to-face astronomy observation experience class... Two classes for lower and upper grades formed for 40 Dream Start case-managed elementary students
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Seongjanghyun) operated an astronomy and space science class on the 22nd through the online video program Zoom.
This was to provide Dream Start case-managed children, whose outdoor activities are restricted due to COVID-19, with experiences of observing celestial bodies and constellations.
The class had a total of 40 participants. Considering the level of understanding and convenience for children in the same household to access PCs, the class was divided into two groups: lower and upper grades.
The class was held from 5:30 PM for three hours and included ▲ seasonal constellations, zodiac 12 signs and star map lessons ▲ video lectures ▲ night celestial observation experience ▲ mysteries of the universe ▲ space knowledge quiz ▲ satisfaction survey.
The district selected participants from 104 Dream Start case-managed elementary students between October 8 and 15, and delivered teaching materials and snacks individually from the 18th to the 21st, also informing them of detailed matters.
Dream Start is a customized integrated case management service that supports the healthy growth of children from vulnerable groups. It provided opportunities for cultural experiences for the whole family to improve intimacy among family members in vulnerable households.
Seongjanghyun, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “Universal educational welfare is a driving force for sustainable community development,” and added, “We will carefully carry out projects so that students can have a variety of experiences evenly, not only academically.”

The district has been continuing the Dream Start project since 2016. The project targets vulnerable children and families under the age of 12 in the area. Due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, since 2020, it has been focusing on minimizing blind spots in care through ▲ expanding non-face-to-face programs ▲ supporting quarantine services ▲ conducting comprehensive home visit surveys.
