Japan Coast Guard Ends Search Support for East Sea Vessel No. 11 Iljin Incident
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The Japan Coast Guard has ended its search support for the Korea Coast Guard regarding the capsizing and sinking accident of the "Je 11 Iljin-ho" that occurred in international waters northeast of Dokdo on the 20th.
The Coast Guard announced on the 22nd at 10 a.m. that, after consultations with the Korean side, the search operation had been completed.
The accident occurred in international waters northeast of Dokdo. The Japan Coast Guard first received information about the accident through a wireless report from a container ship passing nearby at around 11:36 a.m. on the 20th and notified the East Sea Coast Guard, which then informed the Korean side.
On the first day, the Coast Guard dispatched one aircraft and one patrol vessel to support the Korean side's search and rescue operations, and from the following day, only patrol vessels were deployed.
On the 21st, the Korea Coast Guard rescued two Chinese nationals who were drifting among the nine people on board the accident vessel and found the captain, Park Mo (62), deceased in the ship's wheelhouse.
