Pro Basketball Player Ki Seung-ho Prosecuted Without Detention for Injuring Teammate
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] Former professional basketball player Ki Seung-ho (36) of Ulsan Hyundai Mobis, who is accused of injuring a fellow player during a company dinner, has been brought to trial on charges of assault.
The Criminal Division 3 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Seo Jeong-sik) announced on the 21st that Ki was indicted without detention on assault charges.
According to the prosecution and basketball circles, Ki, while intoxicated at a company dinner held at the team dormitory on April 26, assaulted fellow player Jang Jae-seok (30), causing an orbital fracture.
It is known that Ki also assaulted other junior players besides Jang, but they expressed that they did not wish to press charges, resulting in a non-prosecution disposition during the police investigation stage. However, assault is subject to criminal punishment even if the victim does not wish to punish the perpetrator.
