According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 21st, 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were diagnosed in one day, classified as numbers 5273 to 5287.
They include 5 related to a family in Nam-gu, 6 related to confirmed cases from other cities and provinces, 3 related to an administrative order for a job placement agency, and 1 under investigation due to symptoms.
The Nam-gu family-related cases included daycare teachers and kindergarten students, but all were under self-quarantine, so no full investigation was conducted.
Among the 3 related to the administrative order for the job placement agency, 2 were also family infections; all were confirmed positive while in quarantine. Their nationalities are Chinese and Uzbek.
Among the confirmed cases that day, 7 were found to be family chain infections, all confirmed positive while in quarantine.
The one under investigation due to symptoms is a high school student in Nam-gu who developed symptoms on the 17th and was tested after attending school on the 18th.
The quarantine authorities set up a temporary screening clinic at the school and began a full investigation of 559 people (479 students and 80 staff).
Among the 6 confirmed cases from other cities and provinces, 1 was related to a confirmed case in Gimpo and tested positive in a test before release from quarantine after contact with a workplace colleague.
The other 5 were related to confirmed cases in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. On the 17th, a confirmed case from Gangnam-gu, Seoul, came down to Gwangju and contacted case number 5263, who was later confirmed positive. Subsequently, on the 19th, case 5263 tested positive, and an investigation of movements revealed that 4 people overlapped at a restaurant, resulting in additional confirmed cases.
Among them was an employee of a fire station in Gwangju, and the quarantine authorities conducted full testing of 137 employees at the fire station.
