Gwangju Seo-gu Council's Final Plenary Approval of the 'Food Donation Promotion and Ordinance'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The "Ordinance on the Activation of Food Donations in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City," proposed by Park Young-sook, a member of the Seo-gu Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City, was finally approved at the 3rd plenary session of the 299th Seo-gu Council extraordinary meeting.
According to the Seo-gu Council on the 20th, the main contents of the ordinance include Articles 1 to 5 covering the purpose and definitions of the ordinance and the responsibilities of the district mayor; Article 6 concerning the principles of providing donated food, etc.; Article 7 regarding the establishment and implementation of policies to activate food donations, etc.; Article 8 about support for expenses necessary for food donation and food provision projects; and Article 9 concerning requests for cooperation in food donations.
Councilor Park said, "In accordance with the Act on the Activation of Food Donations, we proposed this ordinance to promote the donation of food and daily necessities and to support donated food to disadvantaged residents of Seo-gu, thereby widely spreading a culture of social community." She added, "It is necessary for our society to show interest and effort so that vulnerable groups such as low-income families can receive healthy and safe food within the local community."
