KOSPI Taking a Breather... Closing Slightly Lower in the 3000s
KOSDAQ Also Closes Lower... Maintains 1000 Level
[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] The KOSPI, which had shown an upward trend recently, closed slightly lower. It maintained the 3000 level, appearing to take a breather.
On the 20th, the KOSPI closed at 3013.13, down 0.53% (15.91 points) from the previous day. After a strong start, it reversed to a slight decline from the morning and showed a sideways movement.
Foreigners and institutions sold net amounts of 73.2 billion KRW and 208.3 billion KRW, respectively. Only individuals bought net 284.5 billion KRW.
Most sectors declined. The steel and metal sector had the largest drop at -3.25%. This was followed by machinery (-2.30%), non-metallic minerals (-2.20%), banking (-1.73%), construction (-1.16%), and transportation and warehousing (-1.09%). Food and beverages (0.33%) and insurance (0.30%) rose.
Among the top 10 market capitalization stocks, LG Chem (1.08%), Samsung Biologics (0.81%), Celltrion (0.46%), Kakao (0.39%), and SK Hynix (0.20%) rose. Kia (-0.59%) and Samsung Electronics (-0.42%) fell. NAVER, Samsung SDI, and Hyundai Motor recorded no change.
The KOSDAQ also closed at 1001.62, down 0.37% (3.73 points) from the previous day. Similarly, after a strong opening, it closed slightly lower without major fluctuations.
Again, foreigners and institutions sold net amounts of 109.6 billion KRW and 12.8 billion KRW, respectively, while only individuals bought net 151.2 billion KRW.
Many sectors declined. Paper and wood (-3.16%), transportation equipment and parts (-2.67%), digital content (-1.22%), and construction (-1.19%) had large drops. Entertainment and culture (3.42%), transportation (2.33%), and broadcasting services (1.71%) rose.

Most of the top 10 market capitalization stocks declined. Wemade had the largest drop at -6.06%, followed by HL Biopharma (-5.70%), L&F (-3.34%), Pearl Abyss (-2.04%), Kakao Games (-1.66%), SK Materials (-0.75%), EcoPro BM (-0.51%), and Celltrion Pharm (-0.49%). Only CJ ENM (3.08%) and Celltrion Healthcare (0.11%) rose.
