Pungsan Dogs Areumi and Gaeuli Sent from Cheongwadae Find a New Home in Suncheon
A Livable City Recognized Even by Cheongwadae Pungsan Dogs: 'Suncheon'
[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 13th that it has received a pair of Pungsan dog puppies from the Blue House and will raise them at Suncheonman Bay National Garden.
This adoption was made after seven puppies were born between ‘Gomi,’ a Pungsan dog given to Chairman Kim Jong-un during the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit in Pyongyang, and ‘Maru,’ a Pungsan dog originally raised by President Moon Jae-in. Suncheon City requested the adoption.
The Pungsan dogs that came to Suncheon City are two of the seven puppies named Areum, Daun, Gangsan, Bom, Yeoreum, Gaeul, and Gyeoul, with the female named ‘Areum’ and the male named ‘Gaeul.’
Starting tomorrow, Areum and Gaeul will live in a cozy space prepared inside the Oriental Medicine Experience Center at Suncheonman Bay National Garden and will receive social adaptation training from dedicated caretakers.
They will also serve as mascots of Suncheon City and ambassadors symbolizing peace, expected to interact with many citizens and tourists visiting Suncheonman Bay National Garden.
A Suncheon City official said, “Considering the strong tendency of dogs to emotionally connect with people, we will take full responsibility to care for them so they can grow well in a suitable environment.”
The city plans to hold a celebration for the adoption of Areum and Gaeul into Suncheon City during the Suncheon Citizens’ Day event on the 15th.
