Kim Min-young, Head of Content, "Turning a Dream I Only Imagined into Reality"
Netflix announced on the 13th that its original series 'Ojingeo Game' (Squid Game) was watched by 111 million subscriber households worldwide. This achievement was made in less than a month since its release on the 17th of last month. It topped the 'Today's Top 10' charts in 94 countries, including South Korea, France, Brazil, India, and Turkey. Notably, it has been number one in the United States for twenty-one consecutive days.
Kim Min-young, Vice President of Content for Netflix Asia Pacific, said, "Since investing in Korea in 2015, we wanted to introduce Korean content to the world," adding, "'Ojingeo Game' made the dream we only imagined a reality." She continued, "When director Hwang Dong-hyuk's story, which he had long conceived, could not be produced anywhere, we found its charm and believed it could move the hearts of global fans."
'Ojingeo Game' continues to generate buzz worldwide. The main cast, including Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, and Jung Ho-yeon, appeared on the prominent American NBC talk show 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon' on the 6th, and the iconic imagery appeared in the heart of New York's Times Square. This has led to increased interest in Korean culture, such as 'Mugunghwa Kkotchi Pieosseumnida' (The Rose of Sharon Has Bloomed) and the 'Dalgona Kit.'
