On the afternoon of the 12th, Lee held an emergency press conference at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office and stated, "I will properly attend the Gyeonggi Province audit. The resignation from the governor position will be decided after the audit."
He added, "Although political attacks related to the Daejang-dong development and Hwacheon Daeyu gate are expected, I believe this will be an opportunity to explain the administrative achievements of the Daejang-dong development project." Regarding the Daejang-dong allegations, Governor Lee apologized, saying, "As the appointing authority and manager, I apologize for the misconduct of some employees," but also stated, "The administrative achievement of recovering 70% of the development profits, which were almost entirely taken by the private sector, should be recognized."
He especially said, "I will take the current situation, where the People Power Party and conservative media are claiming 'complete recovery of development profits,' as an opportunity to establish a 'full recovery system of development profits for the people' and to break away from the real estate speculation republic."
Gyeonggi Province has scheduled audits by the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee on the 18th and the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee on the 20th.
